We are very happy to share an important piece of news with you. Our school, Maple Bear základní škola Olomouc s.r.o., has received official approval from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports to teach selected subjects in English. While this might sound like an administrative step at first glance, it is in fact a significant confirmation of our school’s quality and readiness.
Starting from September 1, 2026, we will be able to teach selected subjects in English across the primary grades. This is not just about teaching English as a subject, but about using it naturally as a language of instruction. Students will encounter English, for example, in mathematics, science, ICT, physical education, and creative subjects. In this way, the language becomes a tool rather than a goal, which is one of the most effective ways to truly acquire it.
This approval is not automatic. Not all schools that present themselves as bilingual or English-speaking actually hold this authorization. As part of the process, the Ministry carefully evaluated our preparedness—from the qualifications and language proficiency of our teachers, to the quality of our educational program, and our ability to ensure balanced instruction in both Czech and English. In other words, we had to demonstrate that we can deliver education in a foreign language in a structured, high-quality, and child-centered way.
For our students, this brings significant added value. They will naturally develop subject-specific terminology in both languages, gain confidence in communication, and learn to use English in real-life contexts. At the same time, balance remains essential—Czech continues to play a strong role in our curriculum, and key topics, especially those related to the Czech Republic and its history, are always taught in Czech as well.
For us, receiving this approval is above all a confirmation that we are moving in the right direction. It reflects the long-term effort of our entire team and a clear vision of what modern education should look like. We do not aim to be just a school that teaches English. Our goal is to create an environment where children learn to think, communicate, and understand the world—naturally, in both Czech and English.
If you are interested in seeing what this approach looks like in practice, we would be happy to welcome you in person at an individual meeting or during our Open Days in the next school year.
